Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Mediation Scholarships

We support new and developing mediators in a variety of ways. We offer scholarships for APFM events, such as webinars, town hall discussions, and annual conferences, and basic annual memberships. APFM membership includes access to monthly online meetups, which are informal meetings where prospective mediators can learn more about the field.

Thanks to the support of APFM members, scholarships are available for select mediation trainings. We are pleased to once again offer the Forrest “Woody” Mosten Mediation Training Scholarship. Applicants will use the same training scholarship application for all approved trainings.

APFM prides its long and enduring association and friendship with Woody Mosten, a true luminary in the field of mediation and peacebuilding. Woody is not only a renowned peacemaker, mediator, educator, and author, but he is also the recipient of the APFM Family Mediation Lifetime Achievement Award (2019). This honor was awarded to Woody in recognition of his passion and dedication to the field of family conflict resolution.

Currently, approved trainings are offered by The Mosten Guthrie Academy, Divorce Mediation Training Associates, and the Center for Mediation and Training. We are interested in expanding the number of supported mediation trainings. If you are interested in adding a training to this list, please contact the Verified Training Committee of APFM at [email protected].

Scholarships are intended to assist prospective and new mediators. The same person may apply for more than one scholarship. For example, a person who is interested in mediation could start with an annual membership, and attend the monthly meetups to meet practicing mediators. Once they have determined that mediation is enough of a fit to move to the next step, they could apply for a scholarship to a mediation training.

We intend for recipients of training scholarships to be fully integrated into APFM. Scholarships come with a one-year basic membership in APFM, and introduction to a mentor. We have various ways for recipients to continue their involvement with APFM beyond the training: committee participation, participation in a panel discussion at an annual conference, contribution to a webinar, or other as agreed.

Scholarships are administered on a rolling basis. We request applications at least 30 days in advance for APFM offerings, and 60 days in advance for mediation trainings.
