PRACTICE SWIMMING LIKE WHALES (APFM Members)
August 5, 2026
12:00 pm - 1:30 pm Eastern
Most mediators are skilled at working with what they can see. Yet research shows that the issues driving conflict—whether parties feel understood, able to express themselves authentically, or that the process was fair—are often the least addressed at the table, increasing the risk of circular interactions and stalemate.
Research consistently shows a gap between what practitioners aspire to do and what they actually do in practice. Even experienced mediators can miss what matters most—not because they lack skill, but because many of the dynamics shaping conflict operate outside conscious awareness.
We cannot address—or reflect on—what we do not notice.
Join APFM with Dr. Tzofnat Peleg-Baker and Dr. Bryan Hanson for an interactive introduction to the 4⁴SRI® (4⁴ Structured Reflective Instrument)—a multidisciplinary, research-based, goal-oriented reflective framework designed and adapted specifically for conflict practice.
Unlike traditional debriefing, the 4⁴SRI®, designed by Dr. Tzofnat Peleg-Baker, provides a multi-layered reflective architecture that is applied systematically to intentionally engage deliberate, reflective System 2 so it can orient and strengthen ongoing automatic, intuitive System 1 processing, cultivating the interplay between the two systems.
The framework is grounded in the understanding that professional growth depends not simply on reflecting on our experience, but on HOW reflective practice is designed and practiced.
Built around four goal-oriented dimensions of conflict (SPIR), the framework helps practitioners notice and address significant implicit social-psychological dynamics that often remain beneath conscious awareness yet profoundly shape conflict and intervention.
Following a brief introduction to the multidisciplinary research behind the framework, participants will experience key elements of the 4⁴SRI® through mediation examples and explore how structured reflection conducted systematically can strengthen professional judgment, interrupt habitual patterns, reduce the gap between aspiration and practice, and expand professional impact.
PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCE IS A PRACTICE.
IT IS THE PATH TO BECOMING THE WHOLE PRACTITIONER WE ASPIRE TO BE
