Description:
The 21-Hour Family Relations Course is designed to meet Ontario’s accreditation requirements for family mediators, parenting coordinators, and arbitrators, while also providing valuable professional development for anyone working in family law. Delivered over three weeks, the course combines on-demand learning with mandatory weekly coach-led tutorials, blending theory, practical skills development, multimedia content, assessments, case studies, and collaborative discussions. Participants gain the knowledge and tools needed to effectively assess and manage the complex dynamics that arise within families and family law disputes.
Through an exploration of family systems, attachment theory, childhood development, mental health, grief, trauma, and dispute resolution strategies, the course equips professionals to work more effectively with separating couples and families. Special attention is given to diverse family experiences and cultural contexts, including LGBTQ2+ communities, African, Caribbean and Black families, faith-based communities, and the impacts of intergenerational trauma. By combining evidence-informed approaches with practical mediation and dispute resolution techniques, the course helps professionals develop more inclusive, informed, and effective family dispute resolution practices.
