Description:
Parenting Coordination is a specialized and increasingly important area of family dispute resolution that requires practitioners to draw on a diverse range of skills, including communication, coaching, education, mediation, and adjudication. This intensive course provides a comprehensive introduction to the Parenting Coordination (PC) process through lectures, case studies, case law analysis, demonstrations, group discussions, and coached role-play exercises. Participants are expected to review course materials and become familiar with relevant legislation and case studies to maximize their learning and engagement throughout the program.
The course covers the core principles and practical application of Parenting Coordination, including defining the coordinator’s jurisdiction, understanding natural justice, drafting effective contracts and reports, and managing both open and closed PC processes. Participants will learn strategies for working with high-conflict families, addressing power imbalances and family violence, incorporating children’s voices appropriately, conducting specialized intake and screening processes, maintaining neutrality, coaching clients effectively, and managing day-to-day practice issues. The program also examines arbitration principles, award writing, cost awards, and other key legal and procedural considerations essential to competent Parenting Coordination practice.
