Organization Presenting the Program: INSIGHTful Mediation Training

Description:

The Family Relations course has been recently revamped to really focus on the information mediators need to work with separating families, and to enhance the ability of mediator to discuss things such as the needs of their children, their own grief cycle and to generally understand how to work with clients experiencing family breakdown. This 21-hour course teaches both those who wish to become mediators and those lawyers who want to enhance their knowledge of the family dynamics and childhood development. It meets the accreditation requirements of the Ontario Association of Family Mediation (OAFM) and other accrediting bodies. It is a required course for all participants who are not mental health professionals, such as lawyers, paralegals, and others. The course introduces participants to family related dynamics and issues which are present in family mediation, expanding participants’ understanding of issues such as family systems theory, mental health issues, attachment in family relationships, and child development. The course is currently led by Krista Konrad, MSW, or our very experienced team of mental health professionals, Dr. Dan Ashbourne and Dr. Lynda Ashbourne. The course will be taught through a combination of lectures, group discussions, case studies, and exercises.
